Why should students have phones in school: A comprehensive perspective

A few years ago, schools completely banned cell phones. Caught bringing a cell phone into school? It’ll probably be confiscated by the powers that be.

Nowadays, the rules have been relaxed a little, but there are still tons of schools that rarely, if ever, let the students have a phone in school. We figured we’d go through the main reasons why it is so important that students have phones in school.

Students phones in school emergency communication

One of the most important reasons to have a phone in school is for emergencies. Students can reach out to their parents if they are in trouble, or the parents can call the student (or even text the student) if plans change.

Some parents will even consider installing tracking apps on their children’s phones to ensure that they are safe at and after school. Whether it’s the Galaxy S25 phone case found here or another sturdy model, protecting the device itself is just as important as monitoring its usage. A well-protected phone can withstand the bumps and drops of daily school life, giving both parents and students added peace of mind.

Educational resources on phones

Browse any app store, and you’ll find countless educational apps. In our opinion, many of these apps work incredibly well to supplement a child’s education. Some studies have shown that students who use these apps often end up with better grades.

In the future, we wouldn’t be surprised if many educational establishments started to lean on these apps as a way to deliver certain lessons. In fact, we’ve seen it with some schools. There are some schools that use tablet computers to help educate children. Cell phones are not all that different, and they’re much easier for a child to access than a tablet computer.

Parental supervision and monitoring

As we mentioned before, a student having a phone means that the parent can track them at all times. This can help with safety when they are traveling to and from school.

The parent can also keep tabs on any messages or phone calls that their child may receive. This could help to eliminate cyberbullying or anything that may have an adverse impact on the child.

Preparing for the digital age

Let’s be honest, phones are going to play a major role in the future. In fact, they are playing a role in our lives now. Almost everything that we do in our lives will likely involve a phone in some way.

So, why not give a child a phone at school? School is all about preparing a child for their adult life, and having a phone is really, really going to help with that.

Addressing potential distractions

Obviously, the major issue with a child having a phone is how distracting it can be at school. So, parents are advised to get some sort of app blocker for the phone. This way, certain apps (i.e. social media, etc.) can be blocked while they are at school, helping to eliminate potential distractions.

Parents should also let their children know when it is fine to use a phone at school and when it should be put away.

School policies and guidelines

If you are letting your child take a phone to school, then it is ever so important that you understand any policies and guidelines that the school has in place. It is important that you let your child know these rules so they do not get their phone confiscated.

If your child’s school doesn’t allow phones, but you think they should, then make sure that you bring it up at the next parent-teacher meeting.

Students can benefit from having a phone at school

There are many reasons why students will benefit from having a phone at school, this is why it is a massive shame that many schools still ban them. Hopefully, this is something that will change in the near future.
