Morning habits that help you make the most of your day
Getting the best out of every day tends to mean getting things started with a bang. If you drag your feet in the morning, you might find it difficult to pick up the pace later on.
With the help of a structured morning routine, you can get things moving quickly, set a positive tone, and give yourself a much better chance of enjoying a good day – and, by extension, a good life.
With that in mind, let’s consider a few essential elements of a great morning routine.
Hydrate and nourish your body
To begin with, you’ll need to enjoy a great breakfast. Your body has gone for eight hours (or more) without fluids. Drink a glass of water immediately. This can help to boost your digestive system, keep you alert, and ensure that your body and all of its organs are adequately hydrated.
If you’re going to be drinking coffee in the morning, then the importance of hydration is even greater, since coffee is a diuretic. The same can be said of other caffeinated drinks, such as matcha tea.
Having hydrated, you’ll then want to ensure that you’re eating a balanced breakfast. For most people, this means a winning combination of whole grains and fruits. Avoid processed breakfast cereal entirely, if you can help it.
Engage in morning movement
If you want to boost your energy levels in the morning, then incorporating the right physical activity into your routine can be critical. This might mean going for a quick walk around the block, or a yoga session. Stretching and movement can be very useful, especially if you know that you’re going to be sedentary for much of the day ahead.
Practice mindfulness and set intentions
For a certain sort of mind, the right goals can be critical. You might use your morning to either compose a to-do list, or to review the goals you’ve set for the night before. This is also a good opportunity to practice mindfulness meditation, or to express gratitude. Both of these activities, when performed habitually, can transform your outlook on life, and your mindset as you get started with the day.
Plan and prioritise your day
Your to-do list might be as detailed or as vague as your situation demands. In some cases, you might enjoy a little bit of flexibility. In others, you might prefer to plan out every single moment of the day in meticulous detail. There exists a variety of time management apps, which some people find very useful. On the other hand, you might prefer the tactile feeling of writing things down using a pen and paper, and crossing off your milestones as you meet them.
